Ladi is a 30year old doctor from Tula town in Gombe state, North East of Nigeria. She is the last child of five children. Because of her position in the family, she was showered with all the attention and love she needs to realise her potentials in life as a result she bacame the best Paediatrician in the mission hospital she works with.
While she was in school, she met and fell in love with Zakari. Zakari was just a year older than her and they two of them were passionately in love with each other that they consumated their union; something that is against their religious belief.
As time went on, they had issues and the two parted despite the fact that Zakari had told Ladi that he was going to marry Ladi after school. This badly affected the slender and dark skinned Ladi that her grades in school nose dive. Well, she picked up herself and moved on with life.
Ladi finally finsihed medical school and she is working but all her attempts to find love hit the rocks and went up in flames.
She met Na'Allah, a young handsome man in his 20s. They met in the church she attends and with the passage of time, their friendship blossom that Na'Allah was affectionately attracted to Ladi. He never denied to her that he is attracted to her and has deep feelings for her.
Ladi was on the fence when Na'Allah broke to her the news of his feelings for her. Ladi did not deny that she as well is love with Na'Allah but her fear is that what people will say considering the age difference that existed between them. Na'Allah told her that he is not bothered with that because what matters in a relationship is the two people in that relationship, they decide whether their relationship will work or not.
But Ladi held on to her fears and denying her heart the priviledge for it to be loved and cherished because of the fear of culture. Na'Allah tried all he could but Ladi held on to her fears and instead of loving herself she loved culture to the point that she sacrificed her happiness for it.
The big question is: why do women go through this pain for culture[s] that does not regard them or their worth?

ASABE: AN ELEPHANT IN A HOLE
Asabe is a young girl from Kano state North Western Nigeria. She is the first child in her of seven children. She has younger brothers and sisters. Her immediate younger brother is five years younger than Asabe. The culture in northern Nigeria does not allow young girls like Asabe to interact and make their own decisions like Asabe. She lives in a patriarchal society where men subjugate and oppress women because of their masculinity.
Asabe likes to play soccer and as such most of her friends are boys because girls are not allowed to play the game of soccer. The situation that Asabe has found herself made her disturbed and her parents are complaining that why would she play with boys instead of girls like her. But because of the paaion she has for the game of soccer, Asabe stood her ground to play soccer, a game she so much loves.
Asabe became lonely because she cannot play with girls and she is not permitted to play with boys and with time, the girls decided to stay out of Asabe's way. The adults in her community saw Asabe as a pervert.
Aasabe is a normal girl with a normal passion for any body growing up but because of the culture or society that Asabe has found herself in, she is narrowed and asked to be myopic in terms of her preference.
Women in African societies are oppressed under the garb of culture. Despite the fact the we live in the 21st century with so much innovations and changes in human philosophy and religious perspectives, Africa is greatly left behind as most Africans prefer their oppressive culture instead of the liberation that modernity brings.

RELIGIOUS GARBAGE
Women in sub Saharan Africa are not mostly allowed to express themselves due to culture and in some instances the religion they practice. Islam does not permit women to have an opinion especially in traditional Islamic settings, women are relegated to the background by men.
This year's eid-el-fitr, I decided to go visit a friend with his family. After meeting him somewhere, we drove a 7mins drive to his home. Upon entering his home, his little daughter came to greet her dad, my friend and me. One thing that stroke me is that my friend's wife was in the room but she could not come out because she was not wearing a veil. She was asking her husband to pass her the veil on the cushion as she can not come out to see me without a veil. I was shocked and surprise because why would someone in their home not be free?
Anyways, after sometime she came out to say hello without the veil and I was bothered as to why she did not came out earlier on without the veil and now she is going about without the veil while am still around. I felt bad because I thought maybe she had a premonition that I was a sexual pervert who will lust after her by seeing her without a veil.
For a society to grow to her full potential, those living in that society most question the things that has been handed down to them by the parents. But the parents or the older generation hold the younger generation by giving them the room to raise fundamental questions as to their ways of life. A society that does not raise questions will be stagnated for generations to come.
How different will it be if my friend's wife had asked why she is not permitted to see a man without a veil? Religion has never helped sustained the growth of any nation but men who raised questions have immensely helped in building any nation of the world. Africa needs to move ahead and drop some cultural and religious garbage for her to catch up with the rest of the world.

HAPPINESS: TRUE LIES
A little conversation with young person about life and what is the essence of life and most will tell you that they just live to be happy. This answer make me ask the following questions: what is happiness? What measure of happiness can truly make one happy? Or is happiness attainable? These are some of the questions that philosophers struggle to answer since time immemorial.
In the pursuit of happiness, some people have found pain. For example, a man drinks himself to stupor because his favorite club have won a football game or a college student graduates with good grades and in the course of celebrating, they have an accident that they lose one vital part of their bodies.
Why does sorrow stand in the way of happiness?
Let's define what truly is happiness.
Is it a mirage and an illusion?
Or is it true lies?
